Home Care Instructions
Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender for several days as a result of manipulation during treatment and previous condition of your tooth. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. Do not chew food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen sodium (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed. If possible, we recommend you consistently take the medication as directed for 3-5 days after treatment. There have been statements made by national and international medical groups about the use of ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) medications in patients who are infected with the COVID-19 virus. Some have suggested that use of these medications may exacerbate the illness. There is no clear study or data suggesting this as of the time this notice was generated. We typically recommend use of these medications to alleviate typical post-operative symptoms, however strongly encourage you to discuss this with your physician prior to taking these medications.
NOTE: Alcohol intake is not advised while taking any of these medications. Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with the above listed medications, or should swelling develop, please contact this office immediately.
